Baroque Pop

While listening to some songs on Fleet Fox’s MySpace page, a friend mentioned that they have “baroque pop” as one of their influences. I’d never heard this term used before so I looked it up on Wikipedia:
Baroque pop is a style originated in the mid 1960s as the flipside of sunshine pop. It used similar orchestrations but was infused with a melodramatic edge which differed.
Yeah okay, I thought. The Beatles and such. The next section describes modern baroque pop:
Modern baroque pop, characterized by an infusion of orchestral arrangements or classical type composition within an indie or indie pop setting, is also referred to as chamber pop or chamber rock. This style, with clear indie-rock inclinations, uses additional members in the band to create a fuller-bodied, more orchestral sound. Many artist often highlight songs with unique instruments not found in most modern popular music such as the accordion or harpsichord. The writing style of the genre often has a distinct narrative quality to it and often makes references to history, literature, philosophy, and folklore.
Ahh…indie rock, chamber rock, chamber pop, orchestral..these are terms I’m more familiar with. They list 50 or so different modern artists that this describes and many of them I enjoy listening to. This brings us to Muxtape. Muxtape is a website to easily share MP3 mixes. I’ve created a mix of artists listed under modern baroque pop in the Wikipedia article. Check it out and let me know what you think.
