The Day of Atonement

Last night our preaching pastor, Mark Driscoll, preached a sermon on atonement. The text was Leviticus 16. The Day of Atonement, or Yom Kippur, is on the 10th day of the 7th Hebrew month. Since I don’t generally think of dates according to the Hebrew calendar I thought 10th day + 7th month = July 10. Then, like any good Calvinist should, I realized that this was John Calvin’s birthday. Sidenote: I don’t really like labels like Calvinist, Jesusnist works for me. But, lo and behold, the Israelites used a different calendar than we did, so Yom Kippur actually falls in late September/early October and not on John Calvin’s birthday.

If you want to hear/watch a great sermon on some great propitiating, expetiating atonement action, head over to marshillchurch.org and check it out.
