Progress and Expansion

We’re moving right along on the house project though the scope of the project seems to be inflating. We’ve put a hole in the wall between the kitchen and living room by reinforcing it with 2 2×8’s and cutting the existing studs down to the level we wanted. The top of the wall will be about 6 inches above the countertops. Thought these two photos are from slightly different angles, you can still see the before and after shot. It makes the place look a lot bigger, which is nice.

You’ll notice the exposed concrete block wall on the right on the second picture. Behind this wall is a hallway with a door to the back yard which is pretty much wasted space. We decided to remove this wall completely. We’ll need to put a beam in but it will give us much more space in the kitchen for a table and chairs. We’re planning on doing this on Saturday. Since we are removing so much drywall in the kitchen we decided to just remove the rest because we would have a difficult time matching textures. So this week my goal is to remove all the drywall in the kitchen, including ceilings. This will require getting into the attic and removing all the insulation above the ceiling. I think I’m going to have to get some coveralls before I start rolling around in fiberglass up there.

Jenae’s parents graciously are letting us stay in their spare room while we work on the house and it looks like we are going to be here for a couple weeks. I’m hoping we’ll be able to move in by January 19. Not for any particular reason, just trying to make a goal.

That’s all for today, I’ll update again once I get some more work done. Our Dutch baby is almost 7 weeks along and we had some tasty Dutch Babies for Christmas breakfast.

It looks great. Let’s see if we can get some of the CG guys over to help you get this done so you and your prego wife can enjoy your new home.

holy crap my friend! Matt Vanderwerff told me the good news. Congrats. Which good news, you ask? Both, but especially the dutch baby. I definitely should have been watching my bloglines a little more closely the past couple months. Can’t wait to see the new place up close!
