De Ruijter

One of my favorite treats as a child was having white bread with butter and sprinkles on it at my Grandparent’s house. Though this treat may seem odd, it is a Dutch favorite.  Th only requirement for this to be truly a Dutch snack is that the bread must be white and cheap, and the sprinkles must be De Ruijter sprinkles.  These sprinkles are imported from the Netherlands and are only available at Dutch shops, unless you happen to live in Lynden, WA or Grand Rapids, MI where they are probably available at most grocery stores.  My little sister recently returned from college in GR for the summer and brought me back a box of sprinkles and I have been enjoying them very much.
