My Seattle Radio Debut

Let me preface this post by encouraging you to read this post.

So, if all works out, this Friday I, Dustin DeKoekkoek, will be making my Seattle radio debut. If you read the post I linked to, you would know that about 5 months ago a set up a podcast for sermons that Mars Hill posts on their web site. If you do not know what podcasting is, look it up. I was contacted earlier this week by a reporter from KBCS 91.3, a local listener supported non-commercial radio station with such radio programs as “Lunch With Folks.” They were doing a short piece on podcasting and in an attempt to find someone interesting to interview, my name somehow came up. I’m guessing through some sort of Google search. So last night after the 5pm service at Mars Hill I had an interview about podcasting. It took about half an hour and the interviewer had some great questions. Besides questions such as how I set up the podcast there were many great questions that I got to answer. She started a train of questions asking if I listened to the sermons from the podcast. She then asked if there were a lot of people of downloaded the sermons that did not attend the church. My answer was yes, but in a few more words. She then asked me something like, “Are people who just listen to the sermons through the podcast missing out on something compared to the people who actually attend the church?” What a great question. So I got to talk about the importance of community in the church and that the life God calls us to is much more than Jesus, me and my iPod.

She said that the piece will probably be around 5 minutes and airs this Friday, May 20, on 91.3 at noon and 4 pm. After that you can listen to it online at kbcs.fm in their archived audio. I will post more information and my reaction to the piece after it airs.
