I Love My New Neighborhood
I had another pleasant ride to school this morning. It was accompanied by Iron & Wine and The Cure, thanks again, KEXP. I couldn’t help but notice how much I love my new neighborhood, Ballard, located just north of downtown Seattle. Here’s why:
The first thing I noticed is that the kids walk to school. This is good because it saves gas and we don’t have so many fat kids. Because the kids walk to school there are many crosswalk folks with the flags. Most of these people seem to be retired men. The two closest to my house seem to be in their late 50’s. Both of them gave me a wave this morning and one of them signaled me around a blind corner when I couldn’t see if any cars are coming. These may seem like simple things but they all add up to a great place to live. Another great thing about my new neighborhood, Ballard, is that they are building a new library and we have an array of community center and parks. It is also nice to be able to walk to my church, many stores and our very own downtown Ballard area.
So here’s to my favorite zip code…98107.
If you don’t know, I volunteer for an all ages concert venue, The Paradox, and tomorrow night the headliner is Ida. I recently got their CD and it is very good. I tried to find a link to some of their music online, but failed. But here is their web site. Check it out.
